 | | | | | PSEO offers eligible juniors and seniors a chance to take college courses during high school. PSEO students attend college classes, do not pay tuition, and earn both high school and college credits. These credits may transfer to students' post-secondary colleges.
What is the process for becoming a PSEO student? The process begins at the college - they set their own admissions requirements and deadlines for PSEO applications. It is important that students and families research their PSEO options and organize the application process carefully.
Below is a general outline for the application process. The counselor at AGAPE strongly recommends that students take the lead in this process, as it is an excellent preview into the college application process that most students complete during their senior year.
- Research the colleges' PSEO programs. Most colleges have eligibility requirements and applications available on the internet (see list below for additional links and details).
- The student should meet with his/her school counselor to:
- Review his/her remaining graduation requirements,
- Discuss course choice for AGAPEcourses in the next year, and
- Complete the required Minnesota PSEO Notice of Student Enrollment (see below).
- Gather together application materials.
- Most applications require that students submit a PSAT, ACT or SAT score. The PSAT is given to all juniors in October, so sophomores planning to apply for PSEO for their junior year will need to plan ahead and sign up to take the PSAT in their sophomore year (see Harriet Levine in the CRC). The ACT and SAT are college admissions exams that students generally take during their junior year.
- Students will also need to request an official transcript from the School Counseling Office.
- Other application requirements vary. These can include: essays, writing samples, letters of recommendation, and site-specific exams. Please read through application materials carefully for details.
- Complete and submit all application materials by the deadline. Remember - application deadlines vary, so check the websites!
- Student meets with the college to register for classes.
- Student meets with the counselor to meet his/her PSEO needs.
