This course is designed to teach the complexities of the dynamics of the political and social life of the United States. Specific focus areas may include: constitutional issues; legal issues; civil liberties; human rights; workplace issues; issues of race, class and gender; globalism and technology, immigration and citizenship; and politics and elections. Students will examine these issues within the context of America’s constitutional democracy. Students will demonstrate political and social skills through active participation. Upon completion of the course, students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to satisfy the Minnesota Graduation Standard for Social Studies, Institutions and Traditions in Society.
