Students learn and practice critical thinking skills, study skills, and the writing, reading, and speaking skills required in high school English courses. Students develop communication skills, apply creative thinking processes, and learn to work as a part of a cohesive group. Students explore diverse points of view through a study of world literature. Students investigate nonfiction sources for conducting research and apply a writing process for creating written work for a variety of audiences. Students apply appropriate mechanics, usage, and grammar in their writing and speaking. Students also learn techniques for success on the Minnesota Basic Standards Test in Reading.
